Gerd Rube is a German-born singer, songwriter, and guitarist who has become a fixture in the Key West, Florida music scene, known for his live acoustic rock performances. Background: Rube was born in Schorndorf, Germany in 1968 and started playing music early, forming his first rock band Alcatraz in high school. He became the frontman of 10 years for the band Good News as well as for the (Joe) Cocker Band, a 13-piece formation. His band Dreamcatcher featured Bodo Schopf (Michael Schenker, Sweet, Eloy, Falco) on drums and released a very successful all original album in 2001. He moved to the US in 1993, and has been performing in Key West since the early 90s, becoming a popular performer for locals and tourists alike. Music Style: His repertoire includes classic rock, country, reggae, soul classics, and his original songs. He performs with his acoustic guitar, augmented by backing tracks that he 100% produced himself. Rube is known for his ability to "read" the audience and spontaneously choose songs from his repertoire of over 800 songs. Career Highlights: He has released 20+ CDs. He has recorded with musicians from Garth Brooks' band in Nashville and with members of the Miami Sound Machine (Gloria Estefan). His music video "Happy Day" was broadcast on MTV Europe in the early 90s. His 1991 black Ford Mercury was used in the movie "Red Dragon," starring Hollywood actor Harvey Keitel. Performances: He performs regularly at venues in Key West, including Sloppy Joe's Bar and The Bull and Whistle. Notability: He is considered a respected and popular musician in Key West, as evidenced by his long-standing residency and positive reviews.
